SOG design: Starfish Beach Resort is a masterplan project that combines residential, retail, and hospitality within a verdant 58-hectare haven in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, amidst unspoiled coastal and green landscapes. Tucked adjacent to the famous Starfish Beach, this initiative pays homage to nature's most exquisite gifts. Adopting a vernacular and tropical design, we crafted an environment where every detail evokes the essence of an idyllic getaway.
At the heart of Starfish lies an ambitious vision – to create a premier beach and holiday destination in Phu Quoc, a second home of unparalleled allure and a vibrant retail experience. We are introducing a range of unique features and initiatives, the first of their kind in Vietnam, that will make Starfish an unparalleled lifestyle destination. Starfish is envisioned to set new standards for coastal living.
Embracing Complex Terrains
Our commitment to protecting the unspoiled charm of Phu Quoc's Starfish Beach is evident in every element of our design. We thoughtfully designed the landscape, integrating it with the intricate forest terrain and natural elevations. The steep terrain served as the basis for our design, providing a beautiful canvas for the concept of coexisting with the land.
By minimising cut and fill and meticulously planning roads that conform to the existing terrain, we ensured that the natural contours of the land remained undisturbed. We reenvisioned the entire masterplan by carefully designating zones to decrease density without compromising functionality. Every detail was purposefully arranged to ensure that the design optimised space and tranquillity. Preserving the area's mature trees was imperative, so we incorporated them to stand as living tributes to the natural beauty that characterises Starfish.
Establishing An Iconic Placemaking Destination
Our thoughtfully situated plazas, positioned between the entrance and the beach, serve as lively centres for shopping, relaxation, and entertainment. We have created a pathway where every visitor is sure to encounter a wide range of enjoyable experiences.
At intervals of about 250 meters, each plaza offers a unique set of activities and a distinct personality. Whether it's the allure of outdoor performance areas, the tranquillity of water elements, or the charm of lagoons, they all combine to offer a diverse range of experiences along the main route leading to the beautiful beach. Our goal goes beyond just architecture and design; it's about fostering an environment where the essence of Starfish is the shared moments and community spirit that flourish within it.
Creating Unique Resort-Style Retail Experience
Starfish represents the core of our belief, fusing unchanging and ever-changing elements to form a balanced combination of comfort and calmness. A lush green backbone is constructed in accordance with the natural landscape. It serves as the masterplan's main focal point and ensures uninterrupted connection from the main public entrance to the beach.
We have designed an atmosphere where luxury retail stores exist alongside vast open-air entertainment centres and captivating aquatic displays. By strategically placing the commercial area in the central spine, we have not only created a thriving hub for businesses but also a vibrant community space where locals can enjoy the magnificent sea views of Phu Quoc.
Weaving a Sustainable Tropical Luxury Living
The natural habitat was a crucial consideration for this project. We prioritised the establishment of a green network, choosing not to disrupt the trees and terrain. Instead, we focused on utilising sustainable materials and creative solutions, such as integrating solar panels, introducing bioswales, and implementing water filtration systems.
High-quality shophouses harmoniously blend in with the abundant botanical features across the area. Additionally, luxurious villas offer breathtaking views of the pristine blue waters and the beach during sunrise. Residents and guests at Starfish will be surrounded by spaces where architectural innovation coexists with nature, from the lively Starfish Square to the elegant clubhouse and stunning infinity pool.
