Parisa Ghargaz: Ribbon of Reverie is a fusion of minimalist architecture, surreal imagination, and futuristic form, nestled gently atop a series of lush, grassy hills in Los Angeles. Shaped like a flowing ribbon made of red bricks, the structure glides gracefully across the natural contours of the land, creating a poetic dialogue between architecture and terrain. Its silhouette evokes the warmth and simplicity of a home — a place that feels as though it has emerged from a dream and softly settled into reality.
The design embraces continuity and avoids sharp angles, using soft, uninterrupted curves that suggest movement and serenity. These visual rhythms allow the building to integrate organically with its surroundings, as though it had grown from the hill itself. From afar, it creates a delicate contrast with the distant modern skyline, while remaining in quiet harmony with the grassy landscape beneath it.
The interior is furnished with elegant, minimalist pieces that enhance the building's calm, contemplative atmosphere. Natural light enters through seamlessly curved openings, bathing the space in warmth and reinforcing the peaceful, meditative quality of the structure.
Two small, reflective water bodies are thoughtfully integrated into the composition. These pools not only add visual beauty but also serve as mirrors that reflect the sky, surrounding hills, and cityscape beyond. They provide tranquil focal points that encourage introspection, blurring the boundary between reality and reflection.
One of the project’s most distinctive features is the inclusion of inflated, pillow-like architectural elements. These lightweight, dreamlike forms are interwoven with the heavy brick structure, creating a surprising tension between solidity and softness. The contrast enhances the surreal, otherworldly aesthetic of the project, making it feel both futuristic and poetic.
At one end of the structure lies a square, open platform — intentionally left empty to act as a stage for contemplation, performance, or quiet gatherings. Its simplicity invites imagination, encouraging visitors to project their own interpretations onto the space.
Ribbon of Reverie redefines the relationship between structure, landscape, and human experience. It blurs the lines between imagination and matter, stillness and movement, dream and presence. Each curve, reflection, and material detail is designed to evoke feeling — a sensory journey through a world where architecture becomes emotion made visible.
Ultimately, this is not just a building, but an experience. A gesture of calm. A ribbon resting on the earth’s green surface, offering shelter, softness, and silence to those who pass through its embrace.
