BT is the new centre for the Maltese company Beauty Team, which is located in Mosta on Triq Il-Kbir. A historic townhouse with a small courtyard on 2 levels has been adapted for a new function - combining wellness & beauty with a boutique hotel. The existing facility is expanded through the creation of an underground level and a structure on the roof. The existing courtyard becomes the core of communication and concentrates services around it, acting as the focal point of the project and its users. The facility, which includes a small number of bedrooms, an indoor and outdoor pool, a restaurant, café, spa, hammam, steam room, massage rooms and more, combines a variety of functions which allow for a comfortable stay.
To create the space, the idea of BT starts with 3DM’s characteristic delineation of design parameters. The office’s defining purist search for strong (primitive) forms and the relationships between them is enriched by monochromatism and the use of post-ISSA dramaturgy in the form of sharp angles and dynamic forms. Contemporary interiors combine timeless forms and existing fabric, different functions are distinguished through different colors creating monochromatic zones inspired by the 4 elements - fire, water, earth, air.
The result becomes an effect labeled THE CHIAROSCURO EXPERIENCE known from art, especially present in the Baroque/Romantic period - architecture defines and creates the BT brand combining purism, elegance and a look to the future while connecting with the past.
