This project was developed for the Ukrainian brand the COAT by Katya Silchenko. The women’s ready-to-wear brand was founded by Kateryna Silchenko in 2014. The designer draws inspiration from women around, who are strong, passionate, and subtle at the same time. The design specifications turned out to be quite peculiar since the space was divided into two areas. The first part was functioning as a showroom, designed by another architectural bureau a few years ago. The other one was a studio.

The Crate & Barrel design and construction team brought together an array of talent to execute on their first-ever, full-service restaurant concept. The goal was to create a welcoming dining experience and immerse guests in the Crate & Barrel story.

This new home is located on Lake Washington in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Seattle. The gently sloping site faces south with views of the lake and territorial views of Seattle. The clients wished to create a light-filled home that would accommodate the needs of their growing family of five and allow them to entertain comfortably. In response, we created a home with an open plan featuring a centrally located two-story living room at its heart.

The home’s design takes inspiration from Japan, emphasizing relationships between inside and outside, and framed views. Spaces shift from cozy intimacy to large open rooms. The entrance is a modest, minimal space featuring framed, wood block prints. Turning and walking through the foyer to the east, the visitor is presented with dramatic views of Mt. Hood and Salem. The focal point for the 8,000-square-foot home is the combined living, dining and kitchen: the perfect combination of spaces in which to enjoy country life with their young family and friends.
