MaiWei Landscape Architecture Studio: Lake Palace– A Fusion of Tradition and Modern Urban Living.

Located in the heart of Hangzhou’s central urban area and adjacent to The Peach Blossom Lake Park, this project capitalizes on its superior natural landscape resources and excellent connectivity to seamlessly integrate with nature. Drawing on the timeless charm of traditional courtyard design, the development reinterprets classic Chinese garden concepts for modern urban living.

The design approach is rooted in the traditional layout of Chinese courtyards, where longitudinal spaces are demarcated by low walls and hanging flower gates—features originally used in carriage and horse courtyards. This concept is refined into three distinct landscape zones: the entrance hall, the main hall, and the sunken courtyard, which together form the primary circulation line. This thoughtful spatial strategy not only enhances functional flow but also creates a dynamic interplay between indoor and outdoor environments.

Embodying the fusion of tradition and modernity, the project establishes a landscape framework where water takes center stage and mountains serve as an elegant backdrop. As visitors descend through stepped spaces, they are treated to a multi-dimensional, immersive experience that reveals a 360° boundless view. The interplay of water and terrain brings the landscape to life, capturing the vibrant spirit of classical garden aesthetics while addressing contemporary ecological design principles.

Overall, the project presents a sophisticated synthesis of cultural heritage and modern design, offering a serene urban oasis that celebrates nature, history, and innovative living.
