Jenifer Haider Chowdhury: When I came to know about terrarium for the first time, I got so amazed. It is like a mini mysterious jungle in the rocky hills covered with different types of tiny plants and moss and sometimes inhabited by small animals in a small glass box. If I look closely, I can see the small lush green in different levels integrated with diagonal angular rocks making it so magical and otherworldly. The dynamic placement of rocks and plants makes the light astonishingly enter through the glass. Some areas got sharp angular lights, some got shadows with some incense backflow smoke fountains. It’s an object to calm your inner soul immediately. If you stare into a terrarium only for a few minutes, you will eventually start to think of yourself as a small creature and roaming inside it! How fascinating that is!
So, when I think about the mesmerizing jungles and hills of Bali I found a similar type of situation where a human actually can build a life-size terrarium house to turn that magical fantasy for real. The two biggest, most beautiful, and most popular waterfalls in Bali are Sekumpul Waterfall and Fiji Waterfall. They are located in such an area that is a lush greenery-filled rocky mountain with so many up and down levels that exactly looks like a big size terrarium.
So I propose to design a home there without modifying any rocks or greenery and build the spaces like the whole exterior, the indoor rooms such as bedrooms, dining, bathrooms, kitchen, patio everything in between those diagonal angular rocky surfaces of the hill and lush greeneries. Also, using minimal style architecture with materials like wood, steel, and glass, and very little amount of marble, concrete and stonework, for letting the boldness and calm vibe of the vast nature enter inside the home truly expresses the feelings of living inside a terrarium. So, these images are the visualizations of my idea.
