New passenger terminal of Kavkaz airport: fir dynamics
In the picturesque region of Arkhyz, famous for its mountain landscapes and unique nature, the project of a new passenger terminal of the Caucasus airport, designed by the architectural bureau KPLN, will be implemented. The airport promises to become an important transport hub, providing convenient access to the resorts of Arkhyz, Dombay and Elbrus.
The inspiration for the image of the new airport terminal was the rich nature of Arkhyz. The foothills covered with forest, the bizarre shape of mountain lakes and hills with meadow flowers, the graceful outline of fir seeds — all this reflects sensitive attention to environmental friendliness, the desire to create an authentic image, organically integrated into the environment. The building has the shape of a triangle with rounded corners, integrated into the environment. The green courtyard-atrium and green roof enhance the associations with nature embedded in the image.
The airport is surrounded by a territory with a convenient spacious parking lot and a landscaped park with recreation areas. The functional zones of the airport are located one after another, creating a sequential movement. The entrance area opens into the space of the waiting room with a check-in area, retail, a small food court. Next is the security check area and a comfortable VIP lounge, then there is a spacious comfortable departure lounge with islands of trade and catering, with panoramic glazing and a view of the runway and the picturesque landscape of the Caucasus foothills behind it.
"We wanted to create not just an airport terminal, but a gateway to the mountains that will leave passengers with vivid impressions from the first minutes of arrival. The shape of the terminal, the green roof, wooden columns resembling pine needles, and the internal atrium with a hill of fir trees emphasize the connection with the nature of Arkhyz. Our project is a symbiosis of modern infrastructure and the special atmosphere of the place," — said Sergey Nikeshkin, co-founder and chief architect of KPLN.
The airport is planned to be completed by the end of 2028 and put into operation in 2029. The new airport, located on the bank of the Bolshoy Zelenchuk River, will reduce travel time to the resorts of Arkhyz, Dombay and Cherkessk. Its implementation will accelerate the development of tourism in Karachay-Cherkessia and make mountain tourism even more accessible to travelers.
