Swarm Design Studio: Right in the heart of Siwa Oasis, Western Desert- Egypt, Ethnic Chalet is designed to capture the very distinct spiritual energy of the desert and interpret the local inputs.
Starting with the concrete structure which anchors the house perfectly in its context and passing through the thoughtfully chosen materials from raw timber to featuring earthy tones on the walls, all serving the concept of complementing the design with its surroundings –more of a strikingly beautiful conversation with nature-.
Exposed beams are one striking and catchy feature that no wonder drives your eyes directly to the ceiling lovely design and emphasize the space direction. The house boasts floor-to-ceiling windows in order to let the sunlight color palettes play off the interior shadows and thus blending into the landscape.
Furniture design and selection concept was to infuse the space with rustic materials –worn leather, vintage wood- and warm hues –ochre, tan and sand- while maintaining simple lines and functional details, adding in hand-crafted rugs that have a reputable history of perfect the primitive life aesthetic and terra-cotta accents which served well in making the design feels more desert-like. Also using Turkish kilim pillows that go back to Nomadic cultures against a crème sofa and pottery accessories wherever possible.
Not to mention the essential dose of greens represented in desert Mr.popular cacti and succulents standing tall in rough pots.
So the result of all the elements mentioned above was a spectacular desert dwelling that works perfectly as a dreamy oasis for a starry-eyed wanderer.
