STRICHKA (Ukrainian for "ribbon") is a contemporary Ukrainian restaurant created by AIIX Studio in 2024. The project reimagines traditional motifs through modern forms, emphasizing ecological materials, craftsmanship, and cultural symbolism. Each element embodies a deep connection to Ukrainian identity — quiet, tactile, and timeless.

The concept begins with contemporary Ukrainian cuisine crafted with local ingredients, where each plate tells a story blending heritage with modernity. This philosophy extends to the interior, where decorative tiles and ceramic plates with unique meadow flower imprints were handmade exclusively by local artisans. Textured walls inspired by traditional Ukrainian clay huts ground the design in architectural heritage, while bespoke furniture made by regional masters unifies the space. Authentic Opishnia ceramics and Tripillian-era jugs add timeless artistry, complemented by wildflower arrangements.

The spatial concept emphasizes openness and community. At the heart of STRICHKA lies an open kitchen that invites guests to witness the culinary process as part of the experience. A communal table, carved from natural stone, becomes the centerpiece for gatherings, private dinners, culinary presentations, and workshops. Its custom opening allows the chef or host to engage directly with guests, turning each event into a dialogue rather than a performance. This layout encourages shared experiences and a sense of togetherness, reflecting the essence of Ukrainian hospitality in a contemporary form.

"Our vision was to craft a space where Ukrainian culture lives authentically in every surface — not through obvious references, but through meaningful materials and subtle symbols that carry generations of memory," shares Oleksandr Bosenko, founder of AIIX studio.

Ceramic tiles by Ukrainian craftsmen combine traditional crafts with natural motifs. Grassy and earthy shades reflect culture's connection with nature, while wildflower prints make each element unique — no tile repeats, creating unattainable individuality.

Dried herb compositions (mint, yarrow, cornflower, poppy) carry cultural symbolism from Ukrainian tradition, where herbs are protected, healed, and honored. The project prioritized local sourcing and natural materials like wood, clay, and linen, supporting regional artisans while minimizing environmental impact.
