An Austin Home with Hill Country Views and Italian Inspiration

A California family recently relocated from the Pacific Coast to the rolling hills of Austin, Texas. The couple opted to build their forever home outside Austin’s city core in Texas Hill Country and hired the Austin award winning design firms of Britt Design Group and LaRue Architects. The design team created a modern family-friendly home with a livable indoor/outdoor connection suited to the energetic and growing family. Cooking, crafting and play spaces were important elements as well as a quite private - secluded office. The home is nestled into the hillside providing vistas at every turn. The primary suite is cantilevered out over the landscape with floor-to-ceiling windows. The secondary spaces are set downstairs into the side of the hill and off to the side, to create privacy. The primary and living spaces capture the expansive views looking out over the impressive rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country.

The interior design esthetic leans on clean lines and high contrast with a bit of laid back softness through textiles and textures. “The homeowners wanted warm and inviting spaces with a contrasting color palette, which we created using textural elements like natural textiles, knubby textures, fun wallcoverings, balanced with natural woods and earth tones. They also wanted high-quality luxury Italian furnishings and fixtures that were both durable and kid-friendly,” says Laura Britt, Britt Design Group. The design team’s one of a kind custom designed furnishings in addition to Italian modern pieces are featured throughout the home.

Interior highlights include in the living room: Minotti Sectional and Swivel Chairs, and Berman Rosetti Chairs in Custom Fabric frame expansive views to Texas Hill Country. The dining rooms Holly Hunt Fjord lighting fixtures top Britt Design Group’s custom designed chairs and dining table. In the Kitchen: Natural white oak with a hidden door to butler’s pantry, shou sugi ban treatment at the front of the island with quartzite waterfall countertops. Primary suite: king bed with custom designed leather paneled and walnut headboard with antique bronze rod accents, leather pillow straps, integrated lighting, floating nightstands with touch latch hardware. The Hudgens’ large wine collection is displayed in the custom designed wine room. Other specialty rooms included a crafting creative room and a vibrant kid’s playroom.
