Vera Galitarova: This interior was created for a young student who values freedom and space in his home. Being inspired by the works of Van Gogh and Alexander Rodchenko, we ended up creating an airy interior concept with “virtual” walls. Thus, the concept of minimalism and free space turned out to be the key elements that give the apartment a modern and stylish look.
This apartment is located in the very heart of Novosibirsk in a premium residential complex called “Richmond Residence”. Initially, the apartment was completely “raw”. There were no columns or load-bearing walls that strictly zoned the space. So we were given carte blanche to experiment freely.
First, the interior partition walls were designed. We decided to make them from ultra-clear glass in order to avoid a greenish shade. This approach fits perfectly into the concept and adds more visual space. Thus we managed to divide the apartment into two large blocks: the first one consisted of a living room with a "front" kitchen, a leisure area and a work area. The second block was considered to include a bedroom, which was designed as a single block with a shower (fenced off with transparent glass) and a wardrobe (it is hidden behind frosted glass).
My clients’ comfort and feeling of privacy are the highest priorities. Even though the client himself doesn’t realize them properly, it is us who are responsible to foresee his potential needs as we did there. In order to conceal that probable mess on the wardrobe shelves we installed a frosted type of glass, so that the owner could hide it easily from visitors and stop worrying if they would notice his imperfections. And we also took care of the visitors, too: we built regular brick walls in the guest toilet and installed a flush door.
In general, the interior is made in an achromatic color scheme with accents of blue "ultramarine". Strict lines and rigid minimalism are softened by the outline and texture of the sofa. A coffee table made of blue glass harmonizes space being put opposite the thick sofa group and unites the whole interior.
And this surreal coffee table looks great with a work desk which is located next to the window. The transparent base creates the impression that the tabletop is floating, which emphasizes the atmosphere of lightness and freedom in the interior. And you are not going to see any TV in here. In order to keep the aesthetics of freedom and spaciousness, instead of a typical wall-mounted TV we have chosen a projector, so it wouldn’t look like a giant black spot on the wall.
The bedroom is almost monochrome, but with the highlights in the shape of blue textile pieces. In the center there is a large comfortable bed with a soft headboard. Spectacular pendant lights and laconic bedside tables are the only blue items in this room. The shower behind the glass partition is visible from the bedroom and continues the overall concept of transparency shining with its stylish and functional content.
Overall, this project demonstrates how aesthetics, functionality and unique design solutions can be harmoniously combined to create a secure space to live, study and relax.
