How do you get the most out of a limited resource? Water is the most important natural resource and the base for all forms of life. The sculpture is creating a minimal surface of water that will be not only an artistic icon for the area but also a shelter of protection and a point of encounter and interaction for its users.
The piece aims to be a living sculpture. A sculpture that changes, and that it’s completely permeable to its environment.
The shelter will invite observers to perceive water in various ways:
Water as a vital resource
Water as protection
Water as a point of encounter
Water as a space
Water as something to contemplate
Water as Art.
Its organic and soft geometry blends in a very gentile way with the Sandy geometries of its location.
It aims to be a dynamic sculpture. Its geometry will be in constant change depending on its external stimuli and its interaction with the environment. Human use and interaction will constantly change its shape and movement.
The sunsets and sunrises will paint its surface with its colours, changing its moods as the days and seasons pass. At night, it will be lightened with warm colours, so it could be perceived as a shell of sand raised by the breeze. For this reason, this new living piece of art will feel naturally integrated into its environment.
To achieve this water sculpture a series of 30mm fountain nozzles will be placed alone in a 7/8 of a 9.20 meters radius circle. The water will leave the nozzle at a constant speed tangentially to the floor moving toward the surface that is lifting around the ring. The water will follow the shape of the surface until de end of it and would be released into space where gravity will do the work, letting the waterfall at the centre of the circle. At the centre of the circle on the floor, a small pond will be formed. At this point, the water will be drained and pumped back into the system. All the pumps should be powered by clean energy such as solar panels.
The ground surface will be constructed in plywood and waterproofed with liquid Waterproofing. Its elegant and sculptural minimal surface will become the new landmark and iconic piece for the area.
