After designing two Pause Studio locations, Studio Murnane envisioned an even more premium experience for their client’s fourth location in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Created to host an artful set of patrons inclined to the pursuit of wellness. Studio Murnane created a transporting escape where serenity is realized through thoughtful precision.
Bathed in natural light, the arrival experience is immediately quieting and harmonious. The LED lighting throughout creates dimension and flow. Roman clay walls and fluted plaster columns radiate a soft glow. The retail and IV treatment areas are layered with indigo textiles, hand-made ceramic sculptures, and vases - airy, organic, and inviting. The treatment rooms feature custom vanities and ceramic tile showers, with accents of marble - a casual elegance reminiscent of a Morrocan-style hammam. Fundamental to the design concept is the bathing experience, where float pod rooms are framed by ambient lightwells.
Answering the fundamental needs for sanctuary and relaxation, Studio Murnane considered every subtle touch point an invitation to turn inward and filter out the noise of the external world. With a design theory rooted in biophilia, the firm looked to the natural world as an anchor, tying our innate psychological orientation, sense of safety, and experience of wellbeing to its restorative effects.
