Studio Biosis: Tucked away in a calm and leafy neighbourhood, The Enfold offers a gentle escape from the rhythm of everyday urban life. Designed for a busy family, this compact home focuses on creating comfort, privacy, and a strong connection to nature— beginning with an African tulip tree that stands prominently at the front of the site. Anchored by this vibrant tree, the design embraces its presence rather than working around it. The home gently folds itself around the tree’s canopy, shaping bold edges and soft recesses in response to its form. This sensitive approach not only celebrates the natural setting but also ensures privacy and openness within, anticipating the possibility of neighbouring constructions in the future.
A narrow, low-ceilinged entry hallway leads into a bright and airy double-height living room. This main space connects to a north-facing veranda, allowing sunlight and breeze to flow in and gently merging indoor and outdoor living. The kitchen and dining area are placed along one edge, and a bedroom in the southwest corner offers peace and thermal comfort.
Movement through the house is guided by a staircase that adds interest and variation. One landing is open to the sky through a skylight, while another remains enclosed—creating a play of light and shadow as you move upstairs. On the first floor, a skylit corridor connects two bedrooms and a study, all overlooking the living space below.
The rooms are carefully oriented for light and comfort. The east-facing bedroom includes a cozy window seat that captures the morning sun. The west bedroom is protected from harsh afternoon heat. Between them, slim balconies create visual and social links. In the northeast, the study enjoys soft, all-day light, while a small cut-out in the floor brings this light down to a Buddha idol in the prayer area—adding a spiritual calm to the home.
Material choices are simple yet elegant. The exterior is painted in a clay-red tone, inspired by the tulip tree’s flowers. Inside, raw concrete ceilings, clean white walls, natural wood, and pastel touches create a warm, modern feel. The flooring changes subtly from room to room—Kota stone in shared spaces, Banswara marble in bedrooms, and Jaisalmer accents tying it all together.
The Enfold is a home that adapts to its surroundings with care. It shows how thoughtful design can turn a small site into a light-filled, peaceful living space-rooted in nature and built for everyday life.
