Araja Studio: Casa Calma is located in a pine forest near the beach, and its main purpose was to serve as a refuge from the more chaotic life of the city centre.
Conceptually, to achieve this goal, four “blades” were used: two horizontal ones that make up the floor and roof and two vertical ones that make up the walls. These four elements share the same materiality, but recessed profiles are used between them to accentuate their individuality and at the same time mark the structural dependence between them. In addition to the sand tone that covers the house, white stucco, glass, aluminium and wood predominate.
The house programme, adaptation to the slight slope of the plot, opening up of windows and exposure to the weather, was developed always prioritising the integrity of the initial concept, which despite being somewhat rigid, constitutes a blank canvas for the display of personal items and objects on the inside, while on the outside is in progress an appropriation of the construction by the garden, softening the inflexibility of the design.
