The innovative design of Scorpio House shelters, designed by Bogusław Barnaś and the BXB studio team, received the Iconic Awards 2024 Winner distinction - in the category: Innovative Architecture - Interiors.
The organizer of the Iconic Awards is the German Design Council - an organization established in 1953 by the German Parliament. Every year, it rewards designers from around the world who create innovative and visionary architecture.
The awards gala took place on October 8 at the BMW Welt building in Munich.
This award is important to us because Scorpio House touches on significant social issues. Thanks to Scorpio House, we change the emotional character of this type of architecture with a negative connotation. It can be said that we are breaking the spell of dark war bunkers, giving the shelters a human, universal and accessible dimension. Scorpio House completely reverses the idea of shelters and even creates the trend of having them. This, in turn, will contribute to grassroots activities in the form of private investments in this type of facilities, which will significantly increase the security of the social fabric in our country in the event of crisis situations, not only an armed attack but also extreme weather phenomena or a pandemic. It is worth mentioning here that there are countries that are able to secure shelter space for all their citizens. This is Switzerland or Finland. Sweden has such facilities for 70% of the population, Norway for 50% and the geopolitically unfavorable Poland for only 3.8%.
This award is also a proof of recognition for the topic of shelters undertaken in BXB studio, which is passed over in silence by the architectural community in Poland but also around the world. We are proud of the fact that we are developing such a difficult and at the same time important issue in the field of design. Soon we will present the next stage of the development of our shelters. It will be Scorpio Garden House - a shelter with direct access to the garden.
