Past and present harmoniously converge at the Mexican design firm’s new showroom. Designer Sebastián Ángeles heads up a team that has created an inspiring space for every visitor.
Dórica’s new showroom extends beyond the barriers of physical space to become a point where creativity and inspiration converge. The Mexican design firm—whose hallmark lies in the creation of timeless pieces that combine masterful craftsmanship with contemporary style—has selected an old mansion in the Hipódromo Condesa neighborhood to exhibit its refined collections in a meticulously curated setting, intended to stimulate the senses and unleash the imagination of visitors.
The transformation of this space began with the idea of materializing an open-plan concept, inspired by art galleries, where the arrangement of the different elements would allow the works—and the place for their observation—to exist together, while offering infinite possibilities of use. It is thanks to this inspiration that every detail takes on special importance: lighting, colors and materials have been meticulously selected to create an atmosphere that invites experimentation and innovation.
From the façade to the interior, the various components come together to conceive an immersive sensory experience, extending Dórica’s philosophy to the architecture itself. The windows and staircases have become focal points of attention, which recapture the traditional essence of the original objects and evoke the previous point of sale through their tone and material character, in addition to lending functionality and aesthetics to the space. As in any creative process, the architecture of this showroom is constantly evolving, with flexible and interconnected areas that encourage the exchange of ideas.
Entering the house, diaphanous and minimalist environments express the firm’s predilection for noble materials of a simple nature, which inhabit the volume in a striking manner. The floors are made of white concrete and sand, while the walls are treated with smooth plaster and Venetian stucco finishes that add texture and dynamism. In harmony with the interior, open-air terraces have been built with Recinto stone and gravel floors in light gray, maintaining a neutral chromatic palette in each area, one of Dorica’s hallmarks.
Sebastian Angeles—founder and creative director of Dórica—always seeks to design objects with lasting impact, pieces that possess a meaningful narrative and establish a strong connection with the user. This translates into a precise and meticulous interior, which attends to details such as switches—made of brushed metal, adding easy maintenance to the style—artificial lighting arranged on mobile rails (making it adaptable to different requirements), or concealed railings that merge with the walls.
Even the simplest object expresses the fundamental values that characterize the brand: processes, materials and sustainability.
Transcending the basic purpose of a point of sale, this house stands as a dynamic and versatile place of encounter, ready to welcome an infinite diversity of visitors, artists and creations, fusing design and creativity to offer a singular experience. The constant tension between form and function, as well as the blurred line that separates art from design, become palpable in spaces conceived to contemplate objects that go beyond the utilitarian. In this setting, beauty and practicality intertwine harmoniously, creating an enriching dialogue for human expression.
