Studies show that clutter can affect our ability to focus and sleep. It can even contribute to our anxiety levels. While you might love your individual possessions, their collective presence may be more damaging than you think. Still, not everyone knows how to clear clutter from their homes and feel less overwhelmed. You may experience some success by taking note of these tips:

‘Less is More’ with Artwork

We can view art as an easy way to express ourselves. If we find artwork we like, we can hang it on our walls and enjoy looking at it. However, you may consider donating an artwork to charity when you realize that ‘less is more’ with art. Your home may be looking cluttered because you’ve adopted the ‘more is more’ approach.

Walk around your home with the mindset of an outsider and take note of how cluttered your walls appear. Choose a few deliberate and thoughtful pieces and sell or donate anything that doesn’t make the cut.

Start Small

When your entire home has some level of clutter, tackling it can seem too overwhelming. It can seem easier to live with it. However, clearing clutter from your home can certainly be a more manageable task if you start small.

For example, you might focus on a crowded and cluttered corner of your living room before moving on to the entire living room. Alternatively, you might start with a single drawer in your bedroom.

Invest in Storage

Clutter doesn’t always mean that you own too many possessions. It can sometimes mean that you don’t have enough storage space. Now might be the right time to explore innovative storage solutions for each room.

For example, you might buy an over-the-toilet shelving unit to clear clutter in your bathroom. Above-door shelves are also an excellent option for books and knickknacks in living spaces. Start browsing storage websites online and see what you can find to make a difference in your home.

Live By the ‘One In, One Out’ Rule

When shopping is your favorite pastime, it can be hard not to bring home new things to decorate your home with. Before long, clutter becomes a genuine problem. However, it may not be if you live by the ‘one in, one out’ rule.

This rule means that if you buy something for your home, you must donate or sell something you already own. This may help you on your journey to living a more clutter-free life.

Declutter Often

Decluttering doesn’t have to be a one-off task that you prioritize when your home becomes particularly crowded and busy. It can be something you dedicate time to often. After all, the more often you focus on a task, the smaller it is and the less time it takes.

For example, rather than waiting until the clutter in your living room becomes unmanageable, clear surfaces as they become cluttered. Suddenly, the job of decluttering doesn’t seem as overwhelming.

Ask for Help

Life gets busy. Before long, a previously tidy and organized home can become messy and chaotic. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and let it get on top of you. Whether you need help with storage solutions or the task of tidying and organizing, don’t be afraid to reach out for help. You may decide to enlist the services of organization experts or even ask friends and family to lend a hand. You don’t have to deal with a cluttered home on your own.

Clearing the clutter from your home doesn’t have to be time-consuming, stressful, or overwhelming. By asking for help, decluttering often, and setting some ground rules for yourself, maintaining a tidy, organized, and clutter-free home may be easier than you think.
