When it comes to your home looking its best, you may be drawn to renovate or redesign the inside. But the exterior should not be neglected as it can add value and appeal to your home. Here are some tips to get the exterior looking as good as the interior.

What is landscaping and exterior design?

Simply put, both landscaping and exterior design focus on making the outside of your home look as beautiful as possible.

Landscaping generally focuses on the gardens and outside greenery whereas exterior design covers other features such as driveways and the house itself.

Why is it important?

Looking after the outside of your property is important for many reasons, one of which is creating a favourable first impression. A favourable impression is important whatever the situation. You could be looking to impress guests or potential buyers when you are selling your property.

It is important to remember that people will often drive by your house even before you are ready to sell. Having good curb appeal will help you in the long run.

How to design a driveway

A driveway can often lead your eye towards the house. Making it look nice invites people to look further – if not, it can put them off.

If you are looking for a sleek and modern look then you should choose block paving. Block paving also comes with the benefits of being long-lasting and durable. This is particularly great if you are changing things before selling as buyers often look for modern features.

Another option for a driveway is gravel. Gravel looks great and it is also great for your bank balance! Plus, if you want to save even more money, it is a project that you could do yourself.

Garden landscaping

Landscaping can be a chance for you to really showcase your personality in your garden. You can start by tidying up the plants that are already there. Having neatly trimmed bushes and a mown lawn can help the area to look presentable.

If you have space you may want to consider adding features such as decking or a water feature. You could turn the decking area into a bar and seating area, complete with subtle solar lights to allow you to be outside long into the summer evenings.

Smaller gardens can still be landscaped with strategic planters and lower flowerbeds. Planters can add some style to your space whilst still being functional for plants. Think about adding some colourful flowers to help add some life and colour.

Exterior design

When it comes to the exterior of your home, smaller touches can make a huge difference. Giving your walls a lick of paint can help to brighten up the exterior and make it look clean and new.

Exterior lighting is often a feature that is overlooked. Whether you opt for sensor lights or wired-in lights that can be controlled from the inside, having lighting on the front of the house can be a huge plus for both practicality and buyer appeal.
